Join legendary comedian Billy Connolly for a three-part travelogue that traces the culture and contributions of Scottish Americans across the United States. Brimming with the charm and caustic wit of its host, Billy Connolly's Great American Trail visits the iconic places where Scottish immigrants have planted their roots: from Massachusetts to Tennessee, and everywhere in-between.
Starting in the earliest settlements of New England and finishing in the American heartland, Billy is joined by a colorful cast of characters along the way. His tour covers a broad swath of American history and traditions, as well as the influential Scots who have left their mark on the social, cultural, and political landscape.
In the Boston area, Billy investigates the nation’s oldest seaport and meets a Native American community in the process of recovering their own heritage. Traveling south to New York, he explores the immigrant hub of Ellis Island and celebrates Tartan Day with more than 30,000 Americans of Scottish descent.
Further along the road, his stops include the soccer clubs of New Jersey, the Martin Guitar Factory of Pennsylvania, and the breathtaking Luray Caverns of Virginia — among many others. All the while, Billy's pithy remarks and comedic observations keep the ride thoroughly entertaining.
