Ken Williams (Arapaho/Seneca), a Santa Fe art celebrity, and Sarah Ortegon (Shoshone), an up-and-coming actress in Denver, are both indigenous artists who have roots on the Wind River Reservation. Though neither lives there, each artist creates pieces that reflect the unexplainable connection they feel to their tribal homelands.
Airing Thursday, November 10 at 10 p.m. on WSBE Rhode Island PBS, The Art of Home: A Wind River Story follows their travels to Wind River, where they present their artwork, reconnect with their ancestors, and heal old wounds.
Along with telling Williams and Ortegon's stories, the film explores the process of creating art, art as reconciliation, and what it means to be a "native artist."
