Set amidst World War II, Atlantic Crossing follows the unexpected relationship between Norwegian Crown Princess Martha and President Franklin Roosevelt. Inspired by true events, the series delicately balances history and compelling drama, respectfully telling the tale of how a princess stole the heart of the president of the United States.
Swedish actress Sofia Helin (The Bridge) stars as Princess Martha, who flees to America with her children when Nazis invade her country. Living under the protection of Franklin Roosevelt, played by Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Sex and the City), Martha finds herself becoming a powerful advocate for her country and developing a surprising bond with the U.S. leader. With strong influences of politics and ambition, Martha faces the dilemma of using someone’s feelings or saving her country.
Created, directed, and co-written by Alexander Eik, the eight-part series also features Tobias Santelmann as Crown Prince Olav and Harriet Sansom Harris as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
Atlantic Crossing airs Fridays at 8 p.m., beginning June 11, on WSBE Rhode Island PBS.
