Standing tall at 4'8", Sonia Warshawski is one of the last remaining Holocaust survivors in Kansas City who continues to speak about her wartime experience.
At 15, Sonia watched her mother disappear behind gas chamber doors. Her teenage years were a blur of concentration camps and death marches, and on liberation day, she was accidentally shot through the chest yet miraculously survived.
Now, at 91, Sonia is faced with an eviction notice for the tailor shop she’s owned for more than 30 years. Will she be able to continue to work? Will she have to shut the doors on the tailor shop and finally retire? How will her stories make a difference to people now and ensure that we don't repeat the mistakes of the past?
Interweaving Sonia's past and present through first-person narratives, Big Sonia tells the story of an ultimate survivor and a bridge between cultures and generations.
