It’s no secret that fans of the British Royals long to know everything that occurs inside Windsor Castle. Countless documentaries, media stories, and adaptations have only left them wanting more. In the documentary series The Queen’s Castle, fans can cease their wondering. Filmed over the course of a year and approved by Queen Elizabeth II herself, The Queen’s Castle takes viewers behind the scenes of Windsor Castle.
Through exclusive access given to the series' producers, viewers will meet many of the 300 staff members who keep the 1,000-year-old Windsor Castle in tip-top shape and get an inside look at the daily activities and grand events that take place at the castle.
The Queen’s Castle is narrated by actress Barbara Flynn and separated into three one-hour segments: "The Banquet," "Four Seasons," and "The Ranger."
The segments will air Thursdays at 9 p.m., beginning July 29 on WSBE Rhode Island PBS.
The Banquet – July 29 at 9 p.m.
Meet several members of Windsor’s staff, including Castle Superintendent Major Alan L. Denman, who inspects the grounds each morning, and Annette Wilkin, the Queen’s housekeeper who has been on-staff since 1974. Together, they prepare for “the grandest royal occasion of the year,” — the banquet for (then) French President Jacques Chirac, to celebrate 100 years of the Entente Cordiale.
Four Seasons – August 5 at 9 p.m.
In the second segment of The Queen’s Castle, participate vicariously “in the rituals and events which form the framework of the Royal year,” with the Queen and Royal family at Windsor Castle. The period of time begins with what’s known as Easter Court, a time in which the Queen conducts her official engagements from Windsor rather than the Buckingham Palace.
The Ranger – August 12 at 9 p.m.
Follow the late Prince Philip in the final segment of the documentary series, as he performs his rounds of the Windsor grounds as the longest-serving Ranger of the Great Park in history. Interspersed throughout the Prince's interview, visit St. George’s Chapel, the Royal Forest Agricultural Show, the Cartier International Polo Tournament, and for the grand finale, attend the wedding celebration of Charles, the Prince of Wales, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
