After the unexpected death of her father, Eliza Scarlet finds herself almost penniless. Unsatisfied with the idea of a woman gaining financial security through marriage, Eliza turns her back on societal expectations and her future towards independence. Miss Scarlet and the Duke on Masterpiece follows Eliza’s path as she continues her father’s detective agency alone, working under his name.
Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders) stars as the headstrong and clever Miss Scarlet, who won’t let naysayers stop her from becoming the first-ever female detective in Victorian London. Stuart Martin (Jamestown) stars alongside Phillips as Scotland Yard Detective Inspector William Wellington, also known as the Duke. To acquire cases and intel, Eliza turns to her childhood friend, professional colleague, and potential love interest, William, as she works to build her reputation in a male-dominated career.
The six-part mystery series also features Andrew Gower (Poldark, Outlander), Kevin Doyle (Downton Abbey), Ansu Kabia (World on Fire, The Long Song), and Cathy Belton (Philomena).
Season one of Miss Scarlet and The Duke airs Fridays at 10 p.m., beginning June 11, on WSBE Rhode Island PBS.
Season two of the series is set to release in 2022.
