Homelessness is a major issue in urban centers across the country, and Providence, Rhode Island is no exception.
This March, delve into the untold story of “Hope City” - a tent community formed by homeless residents to look after each other when no one else would.
In a feature-length documentary, Hope City explores the daily struggle of Providence residents who spent their nights sleeping beneath a highway ramp. After the death of a friend from winter exposure, several members of the homeless community quickly came together to “watch each other's backs” and draw attention to their neglect. At the same time, members of Hope City actively worked to better the lives of other unhoused people through activism and lobbying for social change.
Directed by Rhode Island filmmaker David H. Angell and produced by Roger Mulcahy, the film aims to show the human cost of homelessness while bringing critical attention to the tent community’s movement in Providence.
Hope City returns to air on March 29 at 9 p.m.
