Human behavior, from industrial waste management to “throw-away” plastic culture, has created a wealth of problems for the world’s ecosystems. Marine pollution has rendered parts of the ocean uninhabitable, and coastal regions like South Florida can already feel its devastating consequences – with countless sea creatures disappearing or slipping close to endangerment.
Troubled Waters: A Turtle’s Tale explores the most pressing environmental issues of today, as seen through the lens of the fragile sea turtle – just one of the many species ravaged by human enterprise. Featuring acclaimed actor Ted Danson (Cheers, The Good Place) and narrated by Peter Coyote, this one-hour documentary examines the harrowing effects of climate change, water pollution, red tide, and other human-made problems that endanger sea life. The film also meets with marine biologists and volunteers as they work to rehabilitate sick and injured turtles before returning them to the wild.
At the center of the film is a dedicated team of researchers and conservationists, many of whom stress the urgency of addressing climate crises before they become irreversible. As they pour their hearts and souls into saving a species, the documentary leads to a single conclusion: that education, political will, technology, and science can offer hope, but changing human behavior is key in turning back the tide.
