Filmed over a ten-year period, Rhode Island State Parks traces more than a century’s worth of history, sharing the origins of the local park system and the noteworthy destinations that attract visitors from across the region. The documentary incorporates stunning footage from all seasons, taking viewers on a beautiful guided tour of the open spaces used by countless Rhode Islanders every day.
Several prominent Rhode Islanders appear throughout the film, including the late George Wein, promoter of the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, and the late Al Klyberg, who chronicled the history of the parks. Each interview provides insight into the parks’ unique backstories, making the film not only a visual treat, but a vivid learning experience as well.
