Local museums are teeming with stories, chronicling the rich history and culture of southern New England. This month, join Rhode Island PBS for a brand-new season of Treasures Inside the Museum - a series that brings viewers directly to the diverse collections and best-kept secrets right in their own backyard. Five new episodes air on the following Fridays at 8:30 p.m., with encore episodes airing on the following Sundays at 7 p.m.
201 - April 9 at 8:30 p.m.
Season 2 begins at the Fort Taber/Fort Rodman Military Museum in New Bedford, exploring military history from the perspective of local veterans. Then, travel to Jamestown for a behind-the-scenes look at the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum.
202 - April 16 at 8:30 p.m.
This episode features the New England Wireless and Steam Museum in East Greenwich, home to a vast collection of working steam engines that once powered Rhode Island through the industrial age. The museum also collects relics from the dawn of wireless communication, including pieces from the Massie Station - once used by the Providence Journal to send news back and forth from Point Judith to Block Island.

The South County Museum in Narragansett offers a snapshot of life in 19th-century Rhode Island. This living museum features a working print shop, textile samples from different eras, a blacksmith, a collection of horse-drawn carriages, and a flock of animals - including the iconic Rhode Island Red.

This episode ventures out to the Varnum Military Museum in East Greenwich, where viewers can tour an extensive collection of weapons, uniforms, and artifacts dating back to the American Revolution. Then, visit the historic Carpenter Museum in Rehoboth, where an open-hearth kitchen still prepares period-accurate food, and an exhibit features the Rehoboth Milkmaids, a pioneering team in women’s sports.

Peer inside the halls of Rough Point, one of the iconic Newport mansions and former home of Doris Duke. From the finely-manicured grounds to a vast collection of Asian pottery and paintings, each treasure hearkens back to the high society of the Gilded Age.
